Genesis10 is currently seeking an IT Program Manager with software implementation experience for a located in Minneapolis, MN or Denver, CO. Must be able to go on site 3 days a week. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity. Pay range: $90-105 per Hour w-2 W-2 only consultants for this client Role Overview & Scope
The Program Manager III will provide firstlevel oversight and escalation across a portfolio of operations IT projects (approx. 7-8 projects per PM, with ~30 active across the team). The role requires strong leadership, executivelevel communication, crossfunctional coordination, and accountability for ensuring PMO standards (forecast accuracy, status reporting quality, cadence) are met. Projects span operations business units (e.g., Transmission, Energy Supply, Wildfire, Nuclear) and are primarily IT initiatives (commercial offtheshelf implementations/upgrades with integrations).
Key Responsibilities / Typical Day
- Serve as first level of escalation and oversight for assigned projects and project managers; act as the accountable owner for delivery quality and consistency.
- Hold weekly 1:1s with assigned PMs; attend key project meetings and steering committees involving business unit leadership.
- Review and improve forecast accuracy; ensure the quality and cadence of status reporting.
- Support PMs in vendor management, removing barriers (e.g., invoicing/performance issues) and escalating to leadership as needed.
- Occasionally fill shortterm PM gaps if a PM exits or during lighttouch efforts.
Team Structure & Reporting
Program Managers report to Operations Portfolio leadership for daytoday delivery; Project Managers report into the PMO with a dottedline to Program Managers. Team currently includes 4 Program Managers (including this hire) and multiple PMs managing ~30 active projects.
Target Candidate Profile
- 7+ years of progressive project/program management experience in large, matrixed organizations.
- Demonstrated leadership: ability to lead PMs, run or support executive steering committees, and manage crossBU stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, relationship management, and negotiation skills; comfortable having difficult conversations and holding boundaries (scope, timeline, quality).
- Industry: Utility experience preferred; other large enterprise backgrounds (e.g., Fortune 500) are transferable.
- Portfolio scale: experience overseeing projects ranging from $200K up to $15-20M each; aggregate oversight around ~$40M is typical.
- Delivery methods: predominantly Waterfall; exposure to Agile/hybrid environments beneficial.
- Tools: ServiceNow SPM (project module) preferred, Microsoft Project, Jira; proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Education: Not tied to education, although formal education/certifications are preferred, leader is more concerned with commensurate experience. PMP is a strong plus but not required.
