Position Description

Designs, implements and manages an assigned program. Typical duties can include but are not limited to: Identify funding opportunities, conduct program assessments, prepare program reports, oversee and manage program marketing and communications, manage program databases, supervise program staff, plan research activities, coordinate program events, participate in strategic planning, manage program files, establish program standards and objectives, direct logistical activities to promote the success of programs, develop and implement project timelines and ensures deadlines are met, oversee program budget, ensure goals and objectives of grants are met, assists in proposal writing, comply and analyze program statistics.

About the Department and/or College

University Career Center, our mission is to promote the success of Texas Tech students and alumni through face-to-face and virtual methods. We serve the Red Raider community through individual appointments as well as presentations, career fairs, employer info sessions, etiquette events and our Career Closet.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Outreach and site development: Solicits participation in the College to Career Internship Program by reaching out to various departments on campus, through the SBY Job Fair, and other direct marketing channels. Garners participation from local Lubbock employers through SHRM, LEDA the Lubbock Chambers of Commerce, scheduled site visits through traditional canvassing efforts.
  • Personnel Management Support: Manages payroll component ensuring proper payment to interns, departmental accounts are adjusted accurately and federal and state requirements are met.
  • Program Coordination: Works with other departmental staff to maintain internship postings. Communicates with site mentors about recruiting and hiring and other relevant program processes. Inputs approved internship postings into the software system and ensures accuracy.
  • Assesses Submissions for Potential Mentors: Using a 10-point rubric, the Program Manager assesses each submission for interns and approves submissions if they meet the rubric criteria; if not, the Program Manager is responsible for coaching the potential mentor to help ensure compliance.
  • Customer Service: Ensures customer service. Maintains site mentor and student marketing correspondences and training materials,. Performs general customer service and administrative duties related to the program and office needs.
  • Training and Reporting: Trains stakeholders in payroll and budgetary software system use. Maintains spreadsheets and reports for semester annual and other frequent update needs. Conducts and maintains program expense analysis.
  • Administers Final Evaluations: Using the NACE ( National Association of Colleges and Employers) career readiness competencies models students-interns and mentors will be evaluated by the Program Coordinator during a final site visit.
  • Student Employment & Hiring Administration: Manage and coordinate all aspects of student hiring processes in the College to Career Program. Stay in compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. Facilitate onboarding for student employees, including completion and verification of employment eligibility through E-Verify and Form I-9 processes. Initiate, process, and monitor Electronic Personnel Action Forms (ePAFs) to ensure accurate and timely employment records, job changes, and terminations. Provide guidance to supervisors and student employees regarding hiring procedures, required documentation, and system navigation.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of college students' needs in the area of career development.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Suite.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience developing or managing programs or projects. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
