Check out Joe Farmer Recreation Center! Camp Counselor - Make Summer Memories! Do you love working with kids, being active, and spending your days outdoors having fun? The Joe Farmer Recreation Center is looking for energetic, caring, and creative Camp Counselors to help make summer unforgettable! As a Camp Counselor, you'll be a positive role model and leader for a group of 10-12 awesome campers ages 5-12, guiding them through exciting days filled with laughter, learning, and adventure in both indoor and outdoor nature-based settings. What You'll Be Doing:
Supervising and engaging campers in a safe, supportive, and fun environment Planning and leading activities such as:
Encouraging teamwork, creativity, and positive behavior Helping campers build confidence, friendships, and lifelong memories

Schedule a virtual interview between March 1, 2026, and March 14, 2026, or Attend an in-person interview at our Hiring Fair on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Allen Senior Center (451 St. Mary Dr., Allen, TX 75002). Learn more about the Hiring Fair.

Essential Functions

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Instruction of arts and crafts, games, nature education and other outdoor related activities.
- Act as a role model; provide first aid; ensure the safety of children and complete necessary forms and reports.
- Plan and coordinate activities with the Day Camp Director; assistance in other parks and recreation programs as needed, including the Allen USA Celebration.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Must have a desire to work with children and be able to work all eleven weeks of summer camp. Experience working with youth, prior day camp experience, or experience programming camp activities preferred.
Certification and Other Requirements
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
- CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain by May 26th (training provided).
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License

- Recreational programming (arts, crafts, sports, nature, etc.)

- Basic record keeping and documentation practices
- General office practices, procedures, and equipment
Skill in:
- Supervising and engaging with children in camp settings.
- Leading recreational and educational activities.
- Communicating effectively with youth, parents, and staff.
- Promoting safety, enforcing rules, and providing first aid.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, activities, and responsibilities
- Providing excellent customer service and assisting with conflict resolution
- Using a personal computer and basic business software
- Reading and understanding applicable City, State, and Federal rules and regulations
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with campers, parents, the public, and City staff
- Communicating clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Standard office and recreation facility environment
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to operate a City or personal vehicle for business-related purposes
