The Supervisor, SW PB Coding is responsible for coordinating daily activities and providing education and training to the coding staff. This role ensures accounts are completed within the system determined lag days for billing. This role oversees coding compliance and monitors staff quality and productivity.

Essential Job Function

  • Provides leadership, guidance and oversight for the daily operations of the SW PB coding area, collaborating with other Coding leaders, providers and departments in order to provide timely, cost-effective, quality service to our patients, staff and the community.
  • Provides expertise and advice on information, tools and evidence-based practices to build and sustain an efficient facility coding division that focuses on satisfying the needs of patient, practitioner, and third parties.
  • Manages and monitors quality and productivity standards of all staff to successfully achieve departmental and system objectives through LEAN thinking and processes.
  • Serves as liaison for the medical staff, patients and other areas of PB Coding as well as other departments to provide quality facility coding services.
  • Leads cross-functional teams and influences staff to perform at high levels of productivity and quality.
  • Manages performance of the direct reports through regular, timely feedback and formal performance review process to ensure delivery of operational projects and engagement, motivation and development of the team.
  • Hires and oversees the training for all employees as well as preparing any necessary information needed if separation of employment must occur.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Required: Associate degree, or HSD with active credentials as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).Preferred: Bachelor's degree, preferably in a Healthcare-related field.

Experience

  • Required: 3-5 years certified coding experience in a large professional or physician practice coding department. Proficiency in multi-specialty E/M coding and billing.

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required: One of the following national certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Certified Medical Coder (CMC) through Practice Management Institute.
