JOB SUMMARY
The Structural Engineer (PE) will provide structural engineering services in support of mechanical and plumbing construction projects. This includes the design and review of pump skids, piping skids, equipment supports, pipe supports, seismic restraints, and wind restraint systems for mechanical equipment. The role works closely with internal operations teams, virtual construction, fabrication, and field personnel to ensure designs are practical, constructible, timely, and aligned with project schedules and customer commitments.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Design and seal structural calculations and details for pump skids, piping skids, and packaged mechanical systems.
- Engineer pipe support systems including gravity, lateral, seismic, and thermal considerations.
- Design seismic restraint systems for ductwork, piping, plumbing, and mechanical equipment in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Perform wind load analysis and design wind restraint systems for rooftop and exterior mechanical equipment.
- Review delegated design submittals and shop drawings related to structural supports and restraints.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, seismic requirements, wind criteria, and referenced standards (IBC, ASCE 7, SMACNA, MSS, etc.).
- Provide timely engineering support to operations teams to maintain construction schedules and address field conditions.
- Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams, general contractors, and other trades as required.
- Perform site visits to validate existing conditions, review installations, and support issue resolution.
- Clearly communicate engineering intent to non structural audiences including project managers, superintendents, fabricators, and installers.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to standardize details, improve constructability, and reduce risk.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing structural supports for mechanical, and piping systems along with seismic and wind restraints.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting construction phase engineering within a design build or contractor led environment.
- Working knowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems and how they are fabricated and installed.
- Familiarity with seismic and wind restraint design for MEP systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment with competing priorities.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings and delegated design packages.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
- Periodic visits to active construction sites are required.
- Exposure to typical jobsite conditions during site visits.
- No significant physical effort required beyond standard office and site activities.
