Tectonic is currently seeking an experienced Quality Supervisor to oversee the quality, compliance and operational support for the construction inspection and special inspection services based out of our Astoria, NY office!
This role supports hiring and staff development, coordinates closely with dispatch and project management, maintains client relationships, and ensures inspections and reporting meet applicable codes, standards, and company procedures. The position is primarily office-based with periodic field visits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee daily quality control activities for construction and Special Inspection services, ensuring compliance with company procedures, project specifications, approved plans, building codes, and applicable industry standards (IBC, NYC Building Code, AISC, AWS, ACI, ASTM, ASCE);
- Review inspection reports, testing documentation, and supporting records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance;
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of the company's QA/QC Program, including adherence to Inspection & Testing Plans (ITPs) and internal quality systems (AASHTO R18, ISO/IEC 17020/17025), ensuring audit readiness;
- Participate in internal audits, review non-conformance reports (NCRs), assist with corrective action tracking, and support resolution of field discrepancies;
- Conduct periodic field visits to verify inspection activities, reinforce quality and safety standards, and support regulatory compliance;
- Coordinate with dispatch and project management on inspector scheduling, workload balancing, staffing needs, and inspection coverage;
- Assist with recruiting, technical interviewing, onboarding, training, mentoring, and performance support of inspection staff, including tracking certifications and qualifications;
- Serve as a liaison among clients, project managers, inspectors, engineers, laboratory staff, contractors, and regulatory officials to address quality, scheduling, compliance matters, and technical issues;
- Support laboratory and field operations as needed to ensure consistent quality across inspection and testing services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required;
- 7-15 years if experience in multi-disciplined special inspections, QA/QC, Engineering or materials testing; 3-5 years of supervisory QA/QC experience preferred;
- Must possess/maintain one or more of the certifications or additional education as detailed below (or similar); certifications must be currently valid:
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
- ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector
- ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector
- ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector
- ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector
- NICET Certification (Geotechnical, Fire Protection, or Construction Materials).
- Ability to successfully complete required OSHA training within a reasonable time period;
- Ability to communicate clearly and assertively with field inspectors and construction personnel of diverse backgrounds, maintaining authority, professionalism, and respect in demanding field environments;
- Strong working knowledge of building codes, special inspection requirements, and applicable industry standards, including the International Building Code (IBC), NYC Building Code, ASTM, ACI, AISC, AWS, and TMS, with the ability to interpret plans and specifications, review inspection documentation for compliance, and guide field staff on technical requirements;
- Must be detail oriented;
- Requires a valid, clean driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to and transport testing equipment to various project sites primarily throughout the New York City metro area, as regular travel is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:
- Assume a stationary position,
- Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
- Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
- Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
- Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections,
- Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
- Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.
Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. PAY RANGE
Tectonic's goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate's work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.
Pay Range: $45.00 - $60.00 / hour
