Position: Asphalt Plant Manager

Pay Range: $ 115,000 - $ 135,000 per year (Depending on experience)


Francis O. Day Co., Inc., a respected paving and excavation company that operates in Maryland and Virginia, is seeking an experienced Asphalt Plant Manager to join our team. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the asphalt production facility, while ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality asphalt materials. This role manages plant personnel, production schedules, equipment maintenance, inventory control, and regulatory compliance while meeting company performance and profitability goals.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in asphalt production or plant operations
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or management role
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt plant equipment, mix designs, and DOT specifications
  • Experience with plant control systems and production software
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication, management, and supervisory skills
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, including extreme temperatures (cold and hot), and navigate industrial machinery.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more



Key responsibilities include:

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily plant operations, including production, quality control, and load-out activities
  • Monitor production rates and adjust plant settings to meet customer demand and project timelines
  • Ensure proper blending and production of asphalt mixes in accordance with job specifications
  • Ability to handle stressful/sensitive situations with tact diplomacy and assertiveness, between employees as well as any customer situations that may arise
  • Collaborate with other departments to support project delivery and business objectives.



Leadership & Supervision

  • Hire, train, and supervise plant operators, maintenance staff, and laborers
  • Enforce safety policies and conduct regular safety meetings
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Supports Company initiatives such as Total Process Reliability (TPR) that foster engagement and a strong culture at all levels of the organization.



Maintenance & Equipment Oversight

  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs
  • Coordinate repairs to minimize downtime
  • Ensure plant equipment operates efficiently and safely
  • Installation of new or replacement plant components



Quality Control

  • Ensure all asphalt products meet DOT and customer specifications
  • Coordinate testing procedures and maintain production records
  • Address and resolve quality-related issues promptly



Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain all required permits, inspections, and documentation
  • Monitor emissions, material handling, and environmental impact



Financial & Administrative Management

  • Manage plant budget, production costs, and material inventory
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as output, downtime, and material usage
  • Prepare operational reports for senior management
