Assistant Director of Finance and Investments Purpose: The Assistant Director of Finance and Investment is a senior individual contributor responsible for managing complex financial and investment accounting functions and advising leadership on financial operations, risk, and compliance. The position applies advanced professional judgment, master's-level financial expertise, and broad operational knowledge to support the fiscal integrity, stewardship responsibilities, and long-term sustainability of the UMKC Foundation. The role independently manages high-risk and high-impact financial activities and serves as a trusted finance partner across the organization. Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Director of Finance and Investments and operates with significant autonomy in managing assigned financial functions and initiatives. Essential Duties:
Key Attributes
Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, or financial operations involving complex funds, regulatory requirements, or institutional reporting. Supervisory Controls Works under general direction of the Director of Finance and Investments. Exercises independent judgment in planning, prioritizing, and executing work. Assignments are reviewed for overall effectiveness, compliance, and alignment with organizational objectives rather than process. Environmental Demands This position does not require unusual physical ability. Little physical exertion is involved, although considerable pressures exist; the ability to handle tension and stress in a positive manner is required. No risks or discomforts are imposed upon this position by the physical surroundings or job situation. Occasional travel, evening and weekend work may be requested with appropriate notice. Salary Hiring Range: $65,000 to $80,000 per year, Commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity. Work Status: Full Time, benefit eligible staff position with UMKC Foundation.
