Pharmacy Analytics Actuary Advisor

Job Summary

This position will support pharmacy analytics for the actuarial team. This includes contract support through analysis of current data compared to contract terms as well as analysis for proposed contract changes. Will work with the pharmacy team, as well as the pricing team to help support pharmacy specific trend development, deep dives into emerging pharmacy experience and trends. Will provide support for pharmacy formulary change analytics as needed on the actuarial team.

Provides actuarial support by:

  • Preparing, analyzing, and reporting accurate pricing, and/or financial analysis to develop actuarially sound forecasts, targets for provider risk arrangements and/or support for our business partners.
  • Leading/attending meetings to discuss business impact of assumptions, participate in informing decision-making process by evaluating multiple scenarios and providing impact assessments. Helping to establish targets for pricing, budgeting, risk arrangements or other third-party contracts.
  • Assist in advising other departments (Underwriting, Data & Analytics, Provider, Pharmacy, Product and Finance, etc.) on the pricing and profitability of these products, contracts and/or risk arrangements.
  • Assist with recruiting and, training actuarial staff to build a high performing actuarial team and supervising analysts on specific projects where applicable.
Essential Functions
  • Nearly all work is completed independently. Can estimate the scope of new projects, lead work teams, and present to business customers. Is able to design and build complex models for business needs. Demonstrates professional judgement in work consistent with the ASOPs.
  • Mentoring/onboarding is a regular part of their job. Also reviews/checks work.
  • Broad knowledge of multiple areas of the business / markets. Expert in one or more area of the business / market.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel-advanced), Programming & Data tools (e.g. SQL, R, SAS, Python), Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Copilot) and other relevant tools to summarize and visualize results. Provides both descriptive and diagnostic analytics. Supports teammates in troubleshooting/improving technical work products. Collaborates with engineers/architects to support business needs and tests new tables.
  • Focuses on supporting/mentoring the team. Proactively advocates for best practices. Clearly communicates conclusions and recommendations from analysis to an external team.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science or a related discipline such as business, economics, statistics or math; or equivalent education and experience
  • 7 years of relevant actuarial experience
  • 3 years of health care experience
  • Pharmacy experience
  • CRT - Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)

Preferred

  • Experience working in actuarial consulting
  • CRT - Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
