Job Purpose

The Director of Construction Planning and Work Support ensures the management and delivery of the most efficient, cost effective, and levelized work resource plan for National Grid's Upstate NY Electric Operations. It oversees scheduling and planning activities, manages work support operations, and drives continuous improvement across all work delivery processes. This role ensures construction planners, analysts, and clerical support teams collectively enable safe and timely execution across Distribution Overhead and Underground, Substations, and Protection & Telecom.

Key Accountabilities
  • Direct planning and scheduling functions for all Distribution, Substation, and customerdriven construction activities across Upstate NY.
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of constructionready capital projects to maintain a levelized capital work plan throughout the fiscal year, ensuring all prerequisites (scoping, design, permitting, materials, access) are met.
  • Ensure resources are optimally allocated and utilized to meet the agreedupon work plan while maximizing efficiency and productivity.
  • Maintain a steady flow of constructionready work by identifying priorities, risks, and bundling opportunities across capital and O&M activities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Transmission & Distribution Electric Operations and the broader business to translate objectives into clear, actionable planning requirements.
  • Partner with Finance, Engineering, Field Operations, Asset Management, and Supply Chain to ensure costeffective, reliable resource deployment.
  • Apply continuous improvement principles to evaluate and refine policies, processes, and work management practices by identifying pain points, implementing innovative solutions, and driving bestpractice adoption.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a large, diverse organization, fostering high performance, engagement, and continuous learning.
  • Lead teams that perform clerical and administrative support functions for field employees and supervisors.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a Business-related field with 10 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of direct, people-leadership experience in an operational field activity is highly is required.
  • Experience managing union workforce is preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of distribution overhead line, underground, protection & telecom, and substations work.
  • Advanced knowledge of the various stages within the job life cycle from customer initiation through to project completion.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, customer/stakeholder, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • In-depth knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies, and practices and how to apply them effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy is required; ability to travel to divisional offices and other locations as needed.
  • Availability to support storm/emergency response activities as required.
