Overview

The Director of Medical Science (DMS) is a field-based member of the Medical Affairs team at Pharming Healthcare, Inc. Reporting to the Senior Director of Medical Affairs, the person in this position will be responsible for providing in-depth scientific, clinical, and educational support to key opinion leaders (KOLs), as well as internal stakeholders such as clinical, sales and marketing, and managed market teams. In addition, the DMS provides scientific insights back to the Medical Affairs leadership. The DMS must have an in-depth understanding of the therapeutic areas relevant to Pharming Healthcare, i.e. hereditary angioedema and primary immunodeficiencies.

The person in this position must reside in Texas, preferably in the Dallas or Houston area, and will be responsible for the following territory: Texas, Oklahama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Key Responsibilities




  • Build and maintain relationships with the medical community on behalf of Medical Affairs in both the academic and community settings, primarily in allergy/immunology and associated specialties
  • Be the subject matter expert in the current therapeutic areas of Pharming Healthcare, Inc, hereditary angioedema and primary immunodeficiencies
  • Support the medical affairs objectives for Pharming marketed products human recombinant C1-esterase inhibitor and leniolisib
  • Follow all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations related to DMS and Medical Affairs roles
  • Engage and educate KOLs, and other healthcare providers, on relevant disease-state and Pharming product scientific data
  • Report KOL insights and feedback to appropriate internal stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Ensure KOL speakers have access to appropriate scientific data and training
  • Disseminate on-label educational, scientific, and clinical information related to disease treatment and Pharming products
  • Identify unsolicited requests for off-label product information and respond or triage per Pharming standard operating procedures, governmental regulations and compliance guidance
  • Identify unsolicited requests for investigator-initiated research and, when appropriate, share workload with supervisor and clinical development personnel
  • Relay adverse events or product complaints to Pharming Pharmacovigilance
  • When appropriate, represent Medical Affairs at continuing educational events/ programs, medical meetings and scientific conferences
  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications




  • Advanced degree (doctorate) in a healthcare field from an accredited university required; PharmD, MD, PhD, preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) or equivalent role in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Rare disease and immunology MSL experience is highly preferred
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain key relationships with both internal and external customers and provide KOL insights and observations to the medical affairs organization
  • Strong presentation and communication skills to both professional and non-professional audiences; able to provide succinct, strategic, and actionable insights to senior executives
  • Proactive self-starter who can lead work and manage others independently
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 60%, mainly domestic, with international travel when needed by the business

Salary Range

Pharming takes into consideration a combination of candidate's work experience, training, and education, as well as the scope of the role, complexity, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level. The base salary range for this job is from $230,000 to $260,000 per year.
