Description

The Payroll Specialist performs all activities necessary to process bi-weekly payroll, including maintaining related records, validating tax filings, and processing voluntary and involuntary deductions.


Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Handle the accurate and timely processing of biweekly and special payrolls including benefits, taxes and garnishments to over 600 employees that are consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Process new hires, transfers, promotions and terminations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries necessary to record payroll transactions in the general ledger and maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating P&P's.
  • Critically review and analyze current payroll benefit and tax procedures to recommend and implement changes.
  • Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect current employee base including wages, benefits and paid time off allotments
  • Troubleshoot employee payroll issues, research questions and provide answers timely.
  • Conduct regular reviewing of the Paycom system including the payroll GL set-up allocation, tax and benefit system setups to ensure accurate posting and reporting.
  • Actively collaborate with Human Resources (HR) team to review cross departmental impacts and reconcile data discrepancies, as well as assist with monthly Management Paycom Trainings.
  • Responsible for payroll related item in month-end closing and accruals, as well as assist in any other month-end assignments.
  • Assist Accounts Payable as needed
  • Participate as requested with internal/external audits.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Corporate Compliance Responsibility - As an essential function, responsible for complying with Neighborhood's Corporate Compliance Program, Standards of Business Conduct, applicable contracts, laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures as it applies to individual job duties, the department, and the Company. This position must exercise due diligence to prevent, detect and report unlawful and/or unethical conduct by fellow co-workers, professional affiliates and/or agents.

Required:



  • High School Degree or GED (General Education Diploma)
  • Two (3)+ years of related experience in payroll
  • Ability to maintain employee confidentiality of information and ensure policy compliance
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing with internal departments and external vendors
  • General understanding of accounting, reconciliations, and accounts payable functions
  • Working knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping/reconciling
  • Solid knowledge of wage and hourly laws
  • Advanced spreadsheet familiarity (Excel preferred)
  • Ability to work in deadline driven environment
  • Independent work style, but able to work as part of a team
  • Flexibility


Preferred:



  • Bachelor/Associates Degree in Finance or Accounting field
  • Training and/or Certification in bookkeeping concepts and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures
  • Experience working with Paycom and Oracle
  • Understanding of current payroll tax laws and filing requirements
  • Health care and/or insurance industry experience
