The Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as a trusted authority on Certara Data Science (CDS) software applications, applying deep product and domain expertise across the entire customer lifecycle. The role delivers value at all stages of the customer journey-from early solution exploration and implementation through adoption, optimization, and long-term customer success. The SME collaborates cross-functionally with Product, R&D, Support, Customer Success, and Sales teams to provide advanced technical guidance, lead customer education efforts, and translate customer needs into actionable insights that drive CDS product adoption, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Deep Customer Enablement and Technical Excellence
- Partner with Customer Success Managers to support customer onboarding, configuration, optimization, and advanced usage of Certara Data Science (CDS) applications.
- Deliver specialized training or advanced enablement
- Advise on best practices for sophisticated workflows and challenging technical scenarios.
Sales & Pre-Sales Enablement
- Support Sales and CSMs with high-value demos and proof-of-concept presentations
- Provide domain credibility during the sales process to build trust and accelerate deal velocity
- Develop demo scripts, data sets, and customer stories to strengthen the sales narrative
- Represent Certara at industry conferences by delivering scientific presentations, posters, or technical sessions as appropriate
Product Collaboration & Innovation
- Participate in alpha and beta testing of new capabilities, ensuring readiness for customer adoption
- Identify emerging customer challenges and advocate for innovative product solutions
- Translate customer experience into actionable insights for product roadmap planning.
Market and Industry Involvement
- Represent Certara in industry working groups and consortia
- Stay in touch with latest guidance from FDA and other regulatory bodies to identify market risks and opportunities
Product & Technical Expertise
- Serve as a subject matter authority for assigned Certara Data Science (CDS) software applications, maintaining deep knowledge of product functionality, new features, capabilities, and relevant industry best practices.
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of training materials, technical documentation, and knowledge resources that enhance customer understanding, adoption, and effective use of CDS solutions.
- Actively contribute to internal discussions on product direction by providing informed customer insights, usage patterns, and feedback to Product Management and R&D teams.
Qualifications
Required
- Education in Life Sciences, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Pharmacology, or a related quantitative scientific discipline, with a strong emphasis on pharmacometrics or modeling and simulation
- 4-7 years of experience in a scientific, technical, or software-focused role, preferably involving PK, PK/PD, PopPK, or model-informed drug development within life sciences or data science environments
- Demonstrated ability to develop, apply, and communicate expertise in complex modeling and simulation software, with a strong aptitude for learning and adapting to evolving analytical and computational technologies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate, advise, and influence users across a range of technical and business backgrounds
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality outcomes within defined timelines
Preferred
- Background in pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), population PK (PopPK), or closely related quantitative pharmacology or modeling and simulation disciplines
- Hands-on experience with modeling software, ideally in a SaaS environment supporting PK, PK/PD or PopPK workflows
- Solid understanding of regulated environments, including principles of computer system validation and compliance expectations
- Experience working with sensitive or confidential data in regulated or compliance-driven settings
- Demonstrated customer-facing experience, including training delivery, scientific or technical enablement, troubleshooting, or implementation support.

- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex scenarios and recommend effective solutions
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively across teams
- Clear, concise oral and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- Comfortable delivering training sessions, demonstrations, and technical presentations, with willingness to travel occasionally as required (approximately 10%)
- Proactive and consultative mindset, with a strong focus on identifying customer needs and contributing to continuous improvement of products, processes, and customer outcomes
