GENERAL DESCRIPTION

As a DIESEL MECHANIC INTERN you will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of all large equipment such as trucks, travel lifts, forklifts, and more. You'll assist in inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, replacing, and troubleshooting. You'll assist in additional tasks as assigned to help grow your knowledge in the mechanic trade.

Pay: $27/hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assist in performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment, including trucks, cranes, loaders, and excavators. Occasionally working on small engine trucks.
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues and troubleshooting to identify necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing vehicle engines, brakes, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other critical systems.
  • Keeping accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety protocols, company policies, and relevant regulations.
  • Assist in coordinating parts ordering and inventory management for necessary equipment repairs.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area, following all the guidelines of safety and cleanliness.
  • Communicating effectively with the maintenance team and other departments to ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Assisting in emergency repairs as required to minimize operational disruptions.



EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a trade or technical school program in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components gained through coursework or hands-on training.
  • Exposure to maintenance and repair of equipment such as heavy machinery, production/manufacturing equipment (saws, CNC machines, conveyors, etc.), or similar systems through lab work or internships.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong willingness to learn with developing troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bilingual (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to work both independently with guidance and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and occasional evening or weekend shifts, if needed.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Must be able to use various hand tools or controls
  • Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs, occasionally
  • Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently
  • Ability to move around for up to 12 hours per day
