Job Summary
The Associate Project Manager supports capital projects throughout all phases of the project life cycle, ensuring compliance with New York State (NYS) Fire and Building Codes and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Working under supervision, the specialist reviews project plans, participates in design review meetings, and conducts inspections of stations and facilities undergoing rehabilitation. The role requires attention to detail, knowledge of building materials, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Job Responsibilities
Review project drawings, narratives, and design documents to ensure compliance with NYS Fire and Building Codes and ADA regulations
Draft Master Plans, Scopes of Work, and design phase documents with written comments on code compliance
Participate in design review meetings to verify that ADA requirements are fully integrated into project designs
Perform construction acceptance and/or maintenance inspections to ensure compliance with fire, building, and accessibility standards
Document inspection findings and maintain accurate records for project and regulatory purposes
Apply knowledge of building materials, energy conservation, and site inspections in project evaluations
Maintain safety when working on or near wayside areas, including the use of OSHA-compliant practices and personal protective equipment
Complete track safety training as required for NYC Transit, Metro-North Railroad, or Long Island Railroad operations
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Business Administration, or Public Administration with 2 years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) with 6 years of relevant experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in code enforcement, accessible design, plan review, fire department operations, energy conservation, or site inspections in a supervisory or responsible capacity
OSHA 30-hour certification (required prior to performing work on or near wayside areas)
Demonstrated knowledge of building materials and construction practices
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Successful completion of track safety training applicable to NYC Transit, Metro-North Railroad, or Long Island Railroad
Completion of New York State (NYS) Code Enforcement Official Certification prior to beginning work
Ability to provide and use personal safety boots meeting all applicable standards
Education
Bachelor's degree preferred (Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Business Administration, or Public Administration) Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years' experience in code enforcement, accessible design, plan review, fire operations, or site inspections, preferably with supervisory experience
