What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Year-Round -Technical Intern with an Electromechanical background to join our dynamic team! We are a team that provides equipment, facilities, and maintenance support to Center 7500. We manage programmatic assets and process infrastructure equipment for the Neutron Generator and Advanced Manufacturing Enterprise, Center 7500 and Explosives & Power Integration Center 7400. You will work in a results-oriented, lean six sigma culture in which your imagination, drive, and creativity will enable you to build significant value. Positions are designed for top-performing individuals who desire to have a positive impact in Sandia's future and our nation's security.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Write or edit supporting documentation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all types of production equipment including PLC control systems, computer hardware, and related sub-components.
  • Review, revise, and back up computer software including Windows OS, LabVIEW, and various PLC software applications.
  • Operate and evaluate a wide range of equipment to support analytics, development, and production. Tools range from table-top microscopes to industrial scale equipment.
  • Maintain and Troubleshoot Equipment IT infrastructure
  • Execute calibrations and maintenance on equipment such as ovens, furnaces, temperature chambers, vacuum systems, welders, laser markers, part-cleaning systems, and production testers.
  • Interface extensively with our Center 7500/7400 customers and provide them with strong technical support and frequent communication of status.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Seeking a candidate pursuing an AA in Mechatronix or similar at CNM
  • Ability to review, revise, and back up computer software including Windows OS and PLC software applications
  • Ability to team effectively with others including peers, customers, and service providers
  • Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize work, and work effectively under stressful situations
  • Ability to work safely by applying critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to activity-level work that may change and evolve as the work progress
  • Currently enrolled in a post high school science/engineering/technology education program

About Our Team

Department 7573 provides asset and infrastructure support to Center 7400 and 7500. The Equipment Lifecycle Management team coordinates equipment needs across the center, and leads projects to procure, install and characterize new equipment, including replacements and new capabilities. The Calibration & Maintenance team supports all center equipment with preventative and corrective maintenance and calibration. The infrastructure team coordinates with 4700 & 4800 on facility needs and manages process infrastructure equipment across the center.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
