Position description

Associate Specialist Position- Department of Physiology

The Jan Lab in the Department of Physiology is seeking an Associate Specialist. Appointees in the Specialists series engage in specialized research, professional activity, and may participate in University and/or public service. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to the research enterprise of the University and to achieve recognition in the professional and scientific community.

The duties of the position include:

* Electrophysiological characterizations of ion channel properties, calcium-sensitivity, PIP2 sensitivity and channel modulator efficacy.

* Molecular biological expertise for generation of plasmids and viruses for mutagenesis and tandem constructs of ion channels.

* Generation of stable cell lines with or without knockout of endogenous channels.

* Biochemical experiments for purification of ion channel complexes from mouse tissues and cell lines for mass spectrometry and cryo-EM analyses. Immunohistochemical experiments for channel localization.

The incumbent must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
