Summary

Spireisseekingan Apprentice Service Mechanic in Anniston, AL for the AL Service Department. This position will be responsible for recognizing and responding to potentially hazardous conditions in a manner consistent with company procedures and perform maintenance and repairs on gas equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Must pass a mechanic test administered by the training department prior to receiving the job offer.
* Must complete a 13 month not to exceed 24-month apprentice training program.
* Read, understand and complete required documentation associated with the completion of customer service requests and related activity.
* Read, understand and apply all materials, including manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, etc., in the performance of job junctions.
* Communicate with customers, employees, and supervisors, responding to inquiries resulting in mutual understanding.
* Observe, recognize and repair improper and potentially hazardous conditions in working on or around Company distribution facilities, customer appliances, or fuel line installations, consistent with Company procedures in the course of the performance of all assigned job duties.
* Perform maintenance and repairs on gas equipment for extended periods of time in adverse conditions such as extreme cold, heat, rain, etc
* Recognize and respond to potentially hazardous conditions in a manner consistent with Company procedures in the course of performing all assigned job duties.
* Utilize proper personal protective equipment in accordance with Company policy and regulatory requirements while performing assigned job duties. Ability to obtain all required certificates/licenses required by government agencies. Must be able to operate various sizes of motor vehicles in the performance of the job duties assigned to this position.
* Ability to work as part of a team and display a positive attitude in this dynamic environment.
* All other duties as assigned

Essential Characteristics

  • Lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs., including large meters, tools, equipment, and other items necessary to the installation and repair of gas equipment, meters, and regulators.
  • Be able to utilize small tools and equipment required in diagnosing equipment problems and making needed repairs.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • OQ - CBT & Field Evaluation

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

Valid driver's license.


State Gas Fitters Journeyman Certificate (Obtained after one year of Apprenticeship)

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Outdoor Work Environment - exposed to all weather conditions, in construction areas with uneven surfaces and in areas exposed to loud audible noises.
  • Work includes extensive time in the field, where duties require exposure to heavy construction equipment, outdoor elements, and physical exertion.
  • Overtime and /or travel may be required
