TITLE: Sr. 2 Mechanical Technician



POSITION OBJECTIVE: Perform duties required to maintain and repair polyethylene blown film extrusion lines with conveying and winding equipment and multi-lane bag machines with auto pack equipment. Technician will be familiar with a variety of mechanical and electrical concepts, practices and procedures. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May lead and direct the work of others.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical and/or electrical experience.
  • Florida State Journeyman Electrical License preferred.
  • Welding Certifications
  • Advanced Fabricating Skills.
  • Ability to work shift work, weekends, and 12 hours shifts.
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Read the following types of prints: Electrical, machine, building, and flow control diagrams.
  • Work from blueprints, sketches, manuals, extremely close specifications and instructions from maintenance supervisor.
  • Design and build complex parts, frame, and stands.
  • Build electrical panels from as built prints.
  • Diagnose and repair major equipment issues. The ability to use all internal and external means to restore manufacturing equipment and facilities to full operational status.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on extruders and bag machines according to close specifications and standardized procedures.
  • Communicate with appropriate production personnel regarding mechanical problems and provide assistance as required.
  • The ability to reduce operational costs in the manufacturing process by improving the design of equipment, reducing the repair cost for equipment, providing new tools, and methods for the process and identifying new capital investments for improving efficiencies.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for machine improvements and upgrades.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean and orderly conditions. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  • Implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs.
  • Plan and oversee all repair and installation activities.
  • Monitor equipment inventory and place orders when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot rotary and piston type compressors, PM air compressors. Troubleshoot air dryers and know how to repair and service oil/water traps.
  • Replace, rebuild, and troubleshoot water pumps.
  • Calculate wire size required for different amp circuits.
  • Understand voltage and amp rating based on wire type.
  • Troubleshoot live electrical circuits on bag machines, auto packs, binders, ultra-Sonics, winders, un-winders, and printing press.
  • Troubleshoot live-electrical circuits on air conditioning units and water chillers.
  • Adjust extruder treater electrodes.
  • Remove and replace die heater bands.
  • Repair and rebuild bag machine hot knifes.
  • Understand the grounding requirements for electrical panels, panel doors, electrical covers and guards.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
  • Be flexible with schedule and hours, at times the business will require working overtime and weekends.



TRAINING:



  • On the job.
  • Welding Skills
  • Forklift, Scissor-lift, boom-lift operator training.
  • Ensure GMPs are exerted throughout the production process.
  • Ensure production process follows SQF Code.



MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, ELECTRONIC DEVICES & SOFTWARE:



  • Knowledge of AC/DC drives and motors.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and machine shop practices.
  • PC skills/aptitude with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
