SUMMARY: Functions as a triage nurse for colorectal surgery and vascular procedure nurse at Brown Surgical Associates. Reports to the Nurse Manager. Collaborates with surgeons, advanced practice practitioners, managers, supervisors, clinical and secretarial staff to facilitate patient-centered care. Demonstrates an understanding of the organization, its policies and procedures related clinical practice operations. Displays professionalism while addressing patient issues. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines. Under the direction of the Nurse manage and practice supervisor, the nurse may provide direct patient care, patient triage, assessment, planning, directing, evaluating and education of a patient's specific surgical procedure care plan. Assess colorectal patient conditions via phone or in-person consultations. Determine the urgency and type of care required. Provide medical advice and guidance to colorectal patients based on assessment. Coordinate with healthcare colorectal providers to prioritize patient care. Record and maintain accurate patient information and assessment findings. Respond to colorectal patient inquiries and concerns promptly. Identify and address potential emergency situations. Facilitate referrals to appropriate healthcare facilities or specialists. Educate patients on colorectal health management and follow-up care. Collaborate with colorectal healthcare team members to deliver optimal patient care. Monitor and follow-up on colorectal patient progress as needed. Assist in developing and updating triage protocols and procedures. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Use electronic medical records (EMR) systems effectively. Provides direct patient care in the vascular procedure suite under the direction and supervision of the surgeon. Prepares the out-patient vascular procedure suite - sets up instruments, equipment, and medications. Provides pre- and post-procedure education and teaching for vascular patients related to their procedure and post op instructions. Prepares patient's chart with pertinent clinical information. Obtains and documents a patient's focused physical assessment, related to the procedure and documents in the EMR. Obtains and accurately records patient's vital signs and reports abnormal values to surgeon. Administers medications and treatments to patients in the procedure suite, under the direction of a surgeon. Adheres to Infection control and safety guidelines. Collaborates with the vascular nurse supervisor to develop and implement best practices to facilitate care for patients and improve patient satisfaction. Responsible for other duties, clinical or administrative, as may be assigned by the BSA vascular nurse supervisor. Provides coverage for the nurse supervisor in her absence.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Experience in a medical-surgical office setting required, vascular preferred. Knowledge of sterile technique, OSHA guidelines, Universal Precautions, and proper use of personal protective equipment. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes. Computer literate with working knowledge of Electronic Medical Record and computerized appointment scheduling systems. Required to travel to Brown Surgical Associates satellite offices. Ability to work as a team member. Well-organized with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Empathetic with patient needs and concerns. Exceptional interpersonal skills. Adhere to HIPAA Guidelines. Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services. Ability to walk, sit, and stand for long periods of time, ability to lift to 20 pounds.
