Position Overview:As a HVAC Controls Design Engineer you are responsible for delivering a complete control system design based on contract documents (e.g. plans & specifications) or self-developed design/build scope of work. Your design is the operational foundation for our controls contracting business: installation, programming, system integration, functional testing, commissioning, owner-training for a building automation system. You will collaborate with System Integrators, Programmers and Field Engineers to ensure that projects are delivered on time and fully functional.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing or refining an accurate scope of work for a building automation project

  • Develop a project bill of materials for project cost estimate

  • Selecting and specifying appropriate components required for proper operation

  • Developing and writing appropriate control sequences and coordination with programmers for quality control

  • Create submittal documents with detailed schematics, sequences of operation, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and details

  • Design control panel layout for fabrication

  • Provide technical support to field engineers for installation, functional testing and graphic commissioning

  • Ensure all controls systems comply with industry standards, codes, and regulations

  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in HVAC controls technologies and industry best practices

  • Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure high standards of workmanship

  • Understand project scope and execute duties in timeline required

  • All other duties assigned

Qualifications + Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on practical solutions that exceed client expectations

  • Excellent people skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with internal and external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding environment

  • Working knowledge using Microsoft 365 suite + Visio + Bluebeam + Niagara Workbench

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $70,000 - $90,000 in Illinois. The range displayedrepresentsthe pay range for all positions in the job grade in which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
