About the Job

Position Overview:
The Animal Delivery and Supply Coordinator (1826) position will receive animal deliveries and process them for pick up by the RAR Husbandry staff. This position will also serve as the primary cage card-processor and will be responsible for printing breeder card requests. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist with maintaining the supply cage inventory by gathering and labeling supplies and placing them in the appropriate pick-up areas for the Operational Supervisors. The position will work weekly with the Procurement individuals to indicate critical supplies that need to be ordered. This role will also provide backup support to Business Office personnel, ensuring staff have the capacity to focus on the implementation of the ARCH system.

This is a temporary, 6-month position with a possibility of being extended to 12 months if the department has a continued need.

Working Conditions and Physical/Environmental Requirements:
* Some work is performed in animal research facilities with potential exposure to noise and biological materials.
* There will be exposure to animal allergens
* Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, push, pull, and stand for extended periods
* Proof of current Tetanus vaccine is required within the first week of hire

Position Responsibilities:
Animal Receipt and Breakouts (25%)
* Each week receive deliveries of animals from dock, match crates with paperwork and place them in specifically identified areas to be retrieved by Husbandry staff.
* Follow up with the appropriate Operational and/ or Vet/ Vet Tech staff if deliveries are not pick up in a timely manner or if there any issues with the deliveries.
* File paperwork as needed.

Maintain Supply Cage and Pull Supplies for Operations (15%)
* Maintain the supply cage in a neat and orderly fashion.
* Complete a weekly count of all items and record them in inventory workbook in Google docs.
* Discuss any low or excessive quantities of items with RAR Procurement individuals.
* Breakdown supplies delivered for the cage and put away as soon as possible.
* Fulfill Operation Supervisors' requests for supplies from the cage by pulling the items, labeling them and placing them in the designated area for pickup.
* Requests from supervisors should be fulfilled by the end of the next business day.
* Check cage card boxes and count inventory.
* Check cage flagging cards quantities and order more as needed.

Printing Breeder Cage Cards (20%)
* Check email for incoming requests.
* Check information for errors or issues.
* Print card requests and set them out for delivery.
* Correct errors that occur or report errors to persons who can.

Cage Card Processing (25%)
* Sort cage cards turned into the Business Office by type and by day.
* Process the cards in WDS as needed, e.g. activation, outing, etc.
* File processed cards as required for the designated retention period.
* Purge processed cards past the required retention day and dispose of them properly.

Backup and Other Duties (15%)
* Provide backup support to Business Office personnel, as needed, to enable staff involved in the ARCH system implementation to dedicate adequate time to that work.
* Participate on special projects as assigned such as writing/ reviewing SOPs, creating job aids, etc.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* High school diploma/ GED and two years general office/ clerical experience. Training/ education may substitute for some of the experience.
* Requires knowledge and/ or demonstrated ability needed to perform general office tasks.
* Computer experience
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to RAR staff and investigators/ lab staff
* Ability to effectively manage time in a fast-paced environment to meet task deadlines
* Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working in Laboratory Animal Medicine/ Research environment
* Familiarity with ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, as well as, applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite
* Good customer service skills

About the Department

Research Animal Resources (RAR) provides the University of Minnesota's research community with animal care, procurement services, veterinary knowledge, education, and maintenance of housing facilities for animal-related research activities. This position is part of a staff of over 100 employees including Academic and Professional Staff, Civil Service, Union Represented, and Student Employees, all working in support of this mission.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.45/hr - 24.73/hr; or as otherwise required by the collective bargaining agreement.

Time Appointment: 100% Time Appointment

Position Type: Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff

Work Profile: This position has been designated as Profile 1, Office Lab-Based - is expected to work primarily on-site in the office/lab. Only occasionally and inconsistently working remotely.
