Situated within Student Health & Well-Being, the WRC works closely with Counseling Center and Student Health Center professionals to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to assess their well-being, develop effective strategies, and think critically, so they can enjoy thriving well-being. Our staff collaborate with campus partners, student organizations and students to develop and implement effective programs and services.

Job Description

Summary
The University of Missouri's Wellness Resource Center seeks a motivated and experienced Violence Prevention Health Educator to advance comprehensive, evidence-informed prevention efforts addressing interpersonal violence, sexual violence, and related forms of harm on campus. This position plays a pivotal role in strengthening campus-wide primary prevention initiatives, including bystander intervention programming and violence prevention outreach grounded in public health and socioecological frameworks. This multifaceted position serves as a catalyst for creating a healthier, more informed, and supportive campus environment by promoting all aspects of student well-being and will collaborate closely with campus partners to foster a safer, more informed, and more connected campus community.

A successful candidate will bring specialized knowledge in violence prevention, strong facilitation and program development skills, and a desire to help students succeed.

Essential Functions

  • Support development and implementation of a comprehensive campus violence prevention strategy aligned with national best practices, contemporary research, and public health frameworks.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate primary prevention education and outreach, including workshops and trainings focusing on bystander intervention, sexual and interpersonal violence prevention, healthy relationships, and community responsibility.
  • Serve as the lead coordinator for campus bystander prevention programming, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment across student populations and campus partners.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with campus stakeholders, including the Office of Institutional Equity, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Athletics, Student Affairs units, and student organizations, to implement evidence-based and evidence-informed violence prevention initiatives.
  • Provide consultation, training, and technical assistance to professional staff, faculty, and student leaders on violence prevention, bystander engagement, and prevention-informed approaches.
  • Assist the Mizzou Healthy Community Coalition, comprised of campus and community stakeholders, to align prevention priorities and strategies related to violence prevention and safety
  • Coordinate large-scale programs, events, trainings, and awareness initiatives related to violence prevention.
  • Identify and implement innovative educational strategies, marketing campaigns, and communication approaches to support population-level prevention messaging.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs Marketing and Communications staff to develop and execute communication plans that promote bystander action, community norms, and violence prevention through social media and other outreach channels.
  • Use data, assessment tools, and evaluation findings to inform program development, demonstrate impact, and guide for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct small group and 1-1 education sessions with students around alcohol, cannabis, and nicotine as needed
  • Offer judgment-free support and accountability to help students reach their well-being goals through well-being coaching.
  • Communicate and utilize data to inform partners and programs.
  • Work collaboratively with staff of the Wellness Resource Center and Student Health & Well-Being.
  • Serve on university committees, task forces, and working groups related to violence prevention, hazing prevention, and student well-being, as assigned.
Shift

Full-time, Flexible scheduling

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department or division. Your core responsibilities will require a total commitment of 40 hours per week, but you will have the freedom to determine your daily start and end times to accommodate your personal needs and preferences, as well as the operational demands of the position. This unique work arrangement allows for a healthy work-life balance while accommodating the specific needs of our students.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in violence prevention, health promotion, prevention education, or a closely related field.
  • Experience working in a college or university setting, particularly in student affairs, health promotion, or prevention education.
  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, higher education, social work, or related field.
  • CHES or MCHES certification.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based violence prevention or bystander intervention programs.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and group education skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of student populations and campus partners.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
  • Experience coordinating large programs, events, and training.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices related to sexual violence prevention, bystander intervention, hazing prevention, and interpersonal violence.
  • Experience informing marketing, social norms, or social media campaigns.
  • Experience with data collection, assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Training or certification in bystander intervention models, hazing prevention, motivational interviewing, or related prevention frameworks.
  • Experience working with Fraternity and Sorority Life, Athletics, or other high-impact student populations.
  • Grant writing or grant management experience.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $72,000 per year, paid on a monthly basis
Grade: GGS-9E
