Description

The Senior Credit Analyst & SBA Specialist is responsible for analyzing business loan requests to develop thorough and objective credit presentations while ensuring the bank's lending policies and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are followed. This includes analysis of business and personal cash flow and financial statements, comparison with industry trends and/or projections, understanding of collateral requirements and reviewing collateral valuations. These responsibilities also include establishing necessary monitoring reminders to ensure financial requirements are followed. Primary focus will be on preparing credit presentations and servicing requests for our borrowing relationships that have an SBA guarantee, with a secondary focus on non-SBA underwriting. This may include joint calls with Business Relationship Managers to gain necessary insight and information.

Expected Outcomes:



  • Credit presentations are prepared and analyzed to ensure a high quality, accurate assessment of the credit can be determined that identifies strengths and weaknesses of the request and follows the SBA SOP.
  • Business Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers can rely on the Sr Credit Analyst & SBA Specialist's oversight and monitoring of the relationships.
  • Credit risks are identified early and escalated to leadership.
  • Credit presentations and SBA required documents are submitted to the SBA for approval of the guarantee.
  • Based on SBA volume, support is offered on conventional loan requests and overflow coverage for Credit Analyst Pipeline
  • Credit analysts and staff interested in the SBA specialty receive support and mentorship through on-the-job guidance.


Selection Criteria:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in Business Credit Underwriting and Analysis and/or Lending experience; or combination of applicable work experience and education
  • High degree of knowledge of SBA, lending and related services.
  • Extensive knowledge of laws and regulations that govern lending.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support and direction to others.
  • A high level of initiative, thoroughness, accuracy and organizations skills required.
  • Professional, well developed interpersonal and communication skills essential for interacting with credit union staff and members.
  • In-depth mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, dividend, interest, payoff and equity calculations etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and intermediate knowledge of Excel.

  • Physical Demands of Position: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit, stand and walk, use hands and fingers. The employee occasionally must reach above and below shoulder level, and lift/push/pull and /or carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Environmental/Working Conditions: Works in a typical administrative setting with climate control and appropriate lighting. Travel to branches requires exposure to outdoor and traffic conditions.
