Monitors and supervises direct patient care to an assigned population, which includes but is not limited to maintenance of therapeutic milieu using the Psycho educational Model of treatment (PEM). Facilitates a safe, supportive environment and monitors basic physical needs. assists in the daily schedule of the program by maintaining a therapeutic environment, overseeing transportation issues and youth appointments. Acts as the program supervisor during non-business hours and keeps leadership team members or designee/s updated regarding any significant issues that occur. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Supervises, develops, and monitors all staff assigned to their unit/shift and ensures that the Program milieu is safe and organized.
  • Complies with policies and procedures for emergency safety situations. Determines room assignments for safety.
  • Works closely with the Manager RTC Program and other leaders to ensure all staff in their unit/shift are implementing PEM effectively.
  • Completes prescribed monthly amount of direct observation and consultations to Behavioral Health Technicians (BHT's).
  • Ensures all BHT's complete on time and meet competency in PEM, Safe Crisis Management, CPR and other required trainings.
  • Orients new BHT's and assists with completing new hire check list.
  • Facilitates implementation of youth treatment plans and provides direct youth care when needed.
  • Facilitates and maintains a quality treatment environment by adhering to all expectations set forth by the Behavioral Health Quality Assurance and Clinical Quality Improvement Committees and to this end ensures a safe and effective program.
  • Assists with some admissions and is active in orienting youth to the unit and explaining program guidelines.
  • Displays professionalism through willingness to act as a team member, consistently implementing and supporting the Psycho educational Model and BHS policies.
  • Acts as the program supervisor during times when management staff are not on site keeping supervisors informed of any significant issues that occur under their watch.
  • Works various shifts as assigned, including day, evening, weekend and occasional overnights, to provide general unit supervision.
  • Provides general problem-solving assistance with youth, staff and milieu and pinpoints area of improvement to consultation.
  • Completes all required program and management documents within expected timelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Resolve conflict in crisis situations.
  • Communicate concisely, and work well with diverse professional staff, youth, and co-workers.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.
  • Assume a leadership role in measuring, assessing and improving the quality of patient care.
  • Supervise and oversee duties of direct care staff.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for those seeking care.
  • Act as the on-floor Administrator during non-business hours.
  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in providing care for behaviorally disordered youth required.
  • Current CPR, PEM and nationally recognized personal restraint model must be obtained during Pre-service training required.
  • Minimum 20 years of age required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.
  • Complete the following training requirements within the first year of employment: Applied Principals of Behavior I-II, Coaching & Motivating, Consultation/ Supervision Meeting, Crisis & Risk Management, Developing Staff through observations, Difficult Conversations, Giving Conceptual Feedback, Model Fidelity Program Concepts, and Philosophy of Consultation required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • PEM supervision training preferred.

  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Light to medium work, occasional squatting, kneeling, negotiating to the ground into a quadruped position, crawling, lying on the ground while maintaining a variable static force to restrain a child or simulate restraining. Requires functional use of bilateral lower extremities to complete these tasks as the restraint required will dictate employee position and duration of the task, lasting up to 3 minutes. Occasional forceful exertion of the upper extremities while restraining a child or simulating restraints that would require function strength and range of motion the upper extremities and trunk. Force is variable depending on restraint, may be up to 50lbs of static force and up to 3 minutes. Walking and standing varies throughout the day. Subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally and inside conditions frequently. Includes constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and the potential for verbal and physical threats from youth.
