Position Summary
The NDT Level II - Radiographic Testing (RT) Technician is responsible for performing and interpreting non-destructive examinations in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and internal procedures. This role requires hands-on radiographic interpretation (film and digital), evaluation of indications to acceptance criteria, and accurate documentation of results. The technician is expected to work with minimal instructions and supervision. LOCATION: Requires daily onsite attendance; this is not a remote-work position.
Duties And Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL:
- Perform and/or witness NDT inspections and testing activities for internal and external customers, third-party inspectors, and engineering/manufacturing representatives.
- Set up, verify, and calibrate NDT equipment and ensure use of in-date calibrated measuring and inspection instruments.
- Perform hands-on radiographic interpretation of X-ray film and digital images (CR/DR), including identification, evaluation, and disposition of relevant and non-relevant indications.
- Select appropriate radiographic techniques and exposure parameters in accordance with applicable procedures and specifications.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, tolerances, and acceptance criteria (e.g., ASME, AWS, ASTM, customer requirements).
- Compare inspection results with acceptance criteria and accurately record test data and results.
- Communicate inspection results clearly with engineers, quality personnel, production staff, and supervisors.
- Make routine decisions related to equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Work with limited instruction and supervision, completing tasks independently as required.
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and modifying NDT procedures and work instructions.
- Provide technical guidance and informal training to junior NDT technicians and support team development.
- May serve as a subject matter resource in radiographic testing and related NDT disciplines.
- Support customer satisfaction and quality objectives.
- Support the organization's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives, including participation in safety observations, reporting hazards, attending HSE meetings, and supporting improvement efforts.
- Work overtime, weekends, or alternate schedules as business needs require.
- Ability to work night shift starting at 3:00 PM.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 2 years combined NDT experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Texas State Industrial Radiographer Certification or ASNT IRRSP.
- Certified or certifiable in line with ASNT-TC-1A Level II in PT & RT (CR/DR).
- Demonstrated hands-on experience interpreting radiographic film and/or digital radiographs in a production, fabrication, or shop environment.
- Basic working knowledge of Digital and Computerized radiographic techniques (CR/DR).
- Ability to work 2nd shift (start time 3:00 PM).
- TWIC Card (required for certain customer sites; must be eligible to obtain).
DESIRED:
- ASNT-SNT- TC1A certifiable in the following methods: MT & UT
- ACCP Level II in one or more of the following methods: MT & UT
- ASNT Level III in one or more of the following methods: MT & UT
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret ASME & ASTM standards, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to work with minimal instruction and supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position is considered SHOP WORK which is characterized as follows:
- Generally, work performed indoors (70%) and occasional outdoors (30%). Hours of work depend on shift assigned.
- Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends if needed
- Occasional exposure to radiation, airborne dust, and loud noise in the workplace
- Work surface is stable (flat)
- Requires a great deal of manual dexterity, such as working with measuring and testing equipment, marking and hand/power tools.
