The Commercial Aircraft Electronics Group is looking for a Design Engineering Associate to design high density multilayer Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layouts used in various Flight Control Computers (FCCs), Actuator Control Units (ACUs), and Motor Control Electronics (MCEs) for primary and secondary control systems for commercial aircraft. You will work with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers throughout the product development and sustainment lifecycle in support of PCB outline, component placement, routing, and the management and control of printed wiring board design files.

As a Design Engineering Associate, you will...

  • Lead PCB/ PWB layout activitiesfor flight control electronics, motor controllers, and avionics modules used in commercial aviation.
  • Create detailed multi-layer board layouts (including high-speed, mixed-signal, and power distribution networks) from schematics and system requirements.
  • Develop and maintain ECAD libraries (symbols, footprints, 3D models) and enforce library standards and lifecycle processes.
  • Perform signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal considerations in layout; implement controlled impedance routing and appropriate return-path management.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), and assembly rules; interact with contract manufacturers and fabricators to resolve manufacturability and yield issues.
  • Work with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and test engineering to ensure component placement, keepouts, harness routing, and enclosure interfaces are compatible and optimized.
  • Implement and document PCB stack-ups, layer stack definitions, and material selections consistent with electrical and environmental requirements.
  • Support EMC/EMI mitigation through layout best practices and coordination with EMC testing activities.
  • Create and maintain fabrication, assembly, and inspection drawings and deliverables (Gerbers/ODB++, assembly drawings, pick-and-place, fabrication notes).
  • Participate in design reviews, failure investigations, design changes, and sustainment activities across product lifecycle.

At a minimum, you'll need to meet these Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related field (required).
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on PCB/PWB layout experience in an engineering environment; aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated/high-reliability industries strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with ECAD tools such as Mentor Xpedition/Expedition, Cadence Allegro, Zuken CR-8000/CADSTAR, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-layer, high-speed, mixed-signal, and high-power PCB layouts.
  • Practical knowledge of DFM/DFT practices and PCB fabrication/assembly processes.
  • Experience producing PCB deliverables: Gerbers, ODB++, fabrication and assembly drawings, and BOM/placement outputs.
  • Good communication and cross-functional teamwork skills; able to work with mechanical and system engineers to resolve design trade-offs.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits and experience using PLM/PDM or similar configuration control tools.
  • Hands-on experience performing design rule checks (DRC), layout verification, and basic signal-/power-integrity simulations or use of SI/PI tools.
  • Experience with rigid-flex or flex PCBs.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD integration and mechanical constraint management.

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Proficiency using Cadence Allegro tools
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, controlled impedance, differential pair routing, via strategies, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC layout mitigation techniques and thermal considerations in PCB design.

How we care for you:

  • Financial Rewards: great compensation package, annual profit sharing, matching 401k and the ability to participate in Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts
