Coffman Engineers is seeking a Structural Discipline Engineer (minimum of 10 years of experience)for employment in our Spokane office. Our primary marketplaces are Washington, Oregon, and Idaho with other potential opportunities across the United States. The successful candidate will be an independent, self-motivated, and energetic team player who is looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity within a dynamic and progressive firm.

We're looking for a technically strong engineer with excellent communication skills to lead structural design for commercial building projects. In this role, you will manage projects from early design through construction, develop and review analysis models and design documents, and coordinate closely with architects, owners, and contractors. You will also provide clear, timely construction administration support, mentor junior staff, and help strengthen client relationships through reliable execution and collaborative teamwork.

Qualifications
  • Experience with computer analysis software systems.
  • Excellent leadership, supervisory, and writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong team of professionals and support staff within a cooperative multidiscipline office performing at a high level of satisfaction to clients.
  • Design experience with various materials, including steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and light gauge steel and their associated design standards.
  • Perform and oversee structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial building projects including complex gravity and lateral systems and the ability to interpret ambiguous code provisions and justify design decisions.
  • Manage scope, schedule and profitability of projects and maintain a working relationship with clients.
  • Conduct marketing/business development activities including proposal writing and contact negotiations.
  • Ability to provide and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control plans and provide review of construction documents.
  • Understanding the realities of construction and ability to propose practical, buildable solutions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. degree in Civil or Structural engineering required.
  • Master's degree in structural engineering preferred.
  • Registration as a P.E. required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the structural design of buildings or similar structures.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred. Candidates not licensed as an SE will be expected to pursue and pass the SE exam within an agreed timeframe.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Expected Base Salary: $125,000 to 140,000 depending on education, experience, and licensure.
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate or the option to save as comp time.
  • Competitive end-of-year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance.
  • Hybrid work schedule (subject to change).
  • 401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching with 9% Employee Contribution.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship. The position is not remote. No paid interview travel offered.
