Posting Summary
FUNCTION:
Participate in clinical care of patients with neurological disorders under the administrative structure of the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Group according to a schedule determined by the Chair. The principal activity will be care of outpatients with movement disorders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
The faculty member will:

  1. Be Board-certified or -eligible in neurology; have completed a fellowship in movement disorders: and be eligible for a New Jersey license.
  2. Maintain a practice in the full range of adult movement disorders neurology. To maintain a full schedule while building a referral network, the faculty member may be required to see some patients with neurological conditions other than movement disorders.
  3. Have skills in botulinum treatment for movement disorders and include such patients in the practice.
  4. Have skills in evaluation and medical management of patients who are candidates for deep brain stimulation and ablative surgery for movement disorders, and in their postoperative management and stimulator programming. Must coordinate care with neurosurgery, psychiatry and other disciplines as needed.
  5. Perform night call and weekend inpatient coverage at Barnabas-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in equal proportion with the other faculty in rotation.
  6. Participate in the teaching mission of RWJMS to the extent determined in consultation with the Department Chair. This may include teaching and mentoring medical students, neurology residents, movement disorder fellows and rotators from other departments. The teaching will take place in inpatient and outpatient settings and in seminars and occasional formal lectures in the pre-clinical setting. It may also include supervising a weekly resident Continuity Clinic.
  7. Participate as site principal investigator or sub-investigator in clinical trials sponsored by industry and other sources.
  8. Perform and publish other research to the extent consistent with the track of the appointment (Professional Practice, Clinical Educator or Clinical Scholar).
  9. Refer patients as appropriate to clinical trials and other research activity in the department and otherwise participate in the scholarly productivity and culture of the department.
  10. Participate in community service responsibilities of the department in such areas as providing neurological care for indigent patients and teaching or advising lay community groups in multiple areas relating to movement disorders, including deep brain stimulation, in coordination with the Department of Neurosurgery.
  11. Participate in the administrative tasks of the department and medical school. This will include membership in standing or ad hoc departmental and institutional committees as determined in consultation with the Chair and according to RWJMS By-Laws; and attending departmental and institutional faculty meetings.
  12. Maintain knowledge through continuing education and by maintaining Board certification in neurology and any relevant subspecialty certification.

Minimum Education and Experience
MD Candidates must be graduates of an ACGME-accredited neurology residency, be board certified or eligible in neurology; have completed a fellowship in movement disorder or related clinical neurosciences, and be eligible for a New Jersey License. Rank and track will be consistent with qualifications.
