Overview

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.

Cancer liquid biopsy has transformed oncology by enabling non-invasive approaches for cancer early detection, prognosis, and monitoring of minimal residual disease (MRD) following treatment. This position provides an outstanding opportunity for quantitatively trained researchers to develop novel statistical and computational methodologies with direct translational impact on cancer care.

This Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is jointly supported by the NCI-sponsored Liquid Biopsy Consortium (LBC; https://www.lbcconsortium.org/) and a funded research program focused on advancing statistical methods for high-dimensional omics data analysis.

Mentorship and Career Development

This Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be jointly supervised by Drs. Yingye Zheng, Wei Sun and Chad He in the Biostatistics Program within the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The position provides structured mentorship, including regular meetings with faculty mentors, and strong career development support. The Fellow will have opportunities to participate in the NCI-sponsored Liquid Biopsy Consortium and interact with investigators nationwide who are developing diverse liquid biopsy technologies. The role includes opportunities for collaboration with clinician-scientists, as well as protected time for methodological research and software development. In addition, the Fellow will receive training and mentorship in grant writing and career development to support future independent research careers.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Develop statistical and computational methods and associated software for liquid biopsy-derived multi-omics data, including somatic mutations, copy number alterations, DNA methylation, fragmentomics, and immunomics.
  • Contribute to multi-modal analyses integrating multiple types of omic data, and potentially medical imaging modalities such as CT and MRI.
  • Apply developed methods to translational research problems, including multi-cancer early detection, cancer prognosis (e.g., prostate cancer upgrading), and MRD monitoring.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong foundation in statistical modeling and/or machine learning.
  • Demonstrated computational proficiency in scientific programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience analyzing high-dimensional omics datasets.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Additional experience with medical imaging analysis is preferred by not required.

Interested candidates should submit:

  • A cover letter describing research interests and career goals
  • A current curriculum vitae
  • Contact information for at least three references

The annual base salary range for this position is from $80,172 to $95,014, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.

This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship at this time.
