GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Associate Vice President of Tax for a Henry Ford Health holds a crucial position, tasked with overseeing and managing all tax-related functions within the organization. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations while optimizing the health system's tax position. The Associate Vice President of Tax must possess in-depth knowledge of tax laws and regulations, alongside strong leadership and strategic planning skills.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all tax returns, including income, sales, property, and payroll taxes.
  • Coordinate and manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tax records and documentation.

Tax Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the health system's tax position and minimize tax liabilities.
  • Advise senior management on tax implications of business decisions and transactions.
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies, including tax credits and incentives.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the organization.

Leadership and Management

  • Lead and mentor the tax department team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including finance, legal, and operations, to ensure cohesive and effective tax management.
  • Provide training and support to staff on tax-related matters.
  • Develop and manage the tax department's budget.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in tax management.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Prior experience in the healthcare industry is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage, simultaneous assignments with potentially conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable while still meeting goals and due dates.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in tax software and financial systems

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; master's degree or CPA preferred.
