The Abate-Shen Lab at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Staff Associate II to provide computational biology and bioinformatics support to a large-scale cancer biology project involving analyses of mouse and human tissues via single-cell genomics and other molecular profiling technologies. The effort will involve the development and application of platform technologies for analyzing cancer samples working with a team of investigators and researchers at Columbia University.

Functional Knowledge


  • Must have functional knowledge of and experience working with a Linunx operating system.
  • Functional knowledge and fluency in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, R, or similar).
  • Background in cancer biology preferred


Problem Solving



  • Works with a team to troubleshoot computational analysis


Decision Making/Autonomy



  • Level of supervision required, on a scale of 1 (least) to 10 (most)- 5
  • Degree of independent judgement expected, on a scale of 1 (least) to 10 (most)- 5


Technical Expertise



  • Must have technical expertise in bioinformatics of genomic and/or transcriptomic sequencing data


Communication



  • Must have excellent written communication skills, particularly the ability to clearly record data in written form or on a computer and to write and maintain experimental protocols



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, physics, math, engineering, bioinformatics, computer science or a related field.
  • Experience with bioinformatic analysis of genomic and/or transcriptomic sequencing data; Experience working with a Linux operating system; Experience working with and fluency in at least one high-level programming language (e.g. Python, R, or similar); basic knowledge of cancer biology
  • BA plus two years experience, or Masters degree in a related field.
