Department OverviewApplied Technology is a rapid prototyping center within Motorola Solutions. We create proof-of-concept and lower-volume specialty communications products for government and private industry using wireless technologies such as TETRA, LMR, DMR, 5G, LTE, UMTS, CDMA, GSM, WiFi and IoT. In this role, you will be responsible for business development within Applied Technology with responsibility for supporting and driving business within the US Department of Defense (DOD). You will promote and maintain strong business relationships with customers and strive to leverage existing business and create new market possibilities.

As part of the Applied Technology (AT) Business Development team, you will provide technical support to customers, demonstrate department capabilities to current and potential customers, interpret customer requirements and relay them to AT product and development teams to ensure products are competitive and exceeding customer expectations. In this capacity, you will be in a key customer facing role that directly impacts customer satisfaction, business development and AT's reputation in the industry. You will work collaboratively across the organization including with: Business Development, Field Services, Development Engineering, Early Capture, Marketing and Sr Management. Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Demonstrate AT products to new and existing customers explaining feature advantages, comparisons to other products, etc.

  • Grow the business by providing product information and technical support to facilitate business capture.

  • Understand customer requirements and potential impacts for AT products. Help communicate these changes with the development teams

  • Provide voice of the customer feedback to influence product and portfolio roadmaps and Identify and drive features and product offerings to ensure AT competitiveness in the market

  • Management of the business development process, with special attention given to new opportunity identification, screening, forecasting, qualifying, pursuit, and capture.

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of offered products and programs and leverage this to drive business development opportunities

  • Review feature and product implementation strategies with engineering during development providing feedback to ensure a superior user experience

  • Participate in internal product testing to ensure features and products are ready for customer release

  • Support trade shows, technical experiments and customer industry days by showcasing AT products and presenting AT's advantages.

Specific Knowledge/Skills

  • Familiarity and experience with DoD SIGINT/EW/ELINT/Cyber/Secure COMMS product requirements, offerings, and sustainment needs.

  • Familiarity and experience with DoD acquisition processes, funding cycles, requirements initiation and vetting, and UFR process all highly desired

  • Experience working within the Department of Defense SOCOM, Military branches USMC and/or other Federal Government Customers

  • Must have excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and be able to manage multiple competing priorities in short turn-around situations.

  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with individuals and diverse groups of people in business and social settings.

  • Possess strong verbal and written communications and ability to build professional working relationships.

  • Must be technically savvy and have the ability to match company capabilities with customer requirements

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the competitive offering and how our products compare

  • Be able to travel on a regular basis (5-10 days/month)

Target Base Salary Range: $86,500 - $173,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 10+ years experience and must have substantial knowledge of the U.S. defense industry as well as its leadership structure and personnel (military and civilian).

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract. Some contracts may have higher-level clearance requirements.
