Essential Job Duties
The University Sustainability Office serves as a central hub for sustainability resources, programs, and initiatives across campus. Housed within Campus Planning and Strategic Investment, the office supports NC State's mission by helping optimize the use and design of campus land, buildings, and infrastructure through collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and responsible stewardship of resources.
The Sustainability Program Coordinator plays a key role in advancing environmentally responsible operations while supporting student learning and professional development. This position works closely with campus partners to design, implement, and manage sustainability programs and projects that improve efficiency, strengthen resource stewardship, and provide meaningful, hands-on experiences for students. The ideal candidate is collaborative, organized, and passionate about creating positive impact within a dynamic campus environment. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, coordinate, and track sustainability projects and initiatives that support student success, operational efficiency, and environmental stewardship.

  • Lead and manage sustainability programs, including Campus as a Classroom, from project planning through implementation.
  • Recruit, communicate with, mentor, and supervise student interns and project teams, providing guidance and professional development support.

  • Collect, analyze, and maintain sustainability and emissions data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and transparency.
  • Prepare and contribute to sustainability reports, dashboards, and data submissions for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to integrate sustainability practices into university operations and planning efforts.
  • Serve as a connector by building relationships, fostering partnerships, and aligning people, ideas, and resources around shared goals.

  • Develop collaborative partnerships and program strategies to find creative resources and solutions for program or project implementation.
  • Analyze and determine potential areas of improvement for existing programs. Monitor projects or programs to ensure they are continually meeting the stated purpose.
  • Manage a complex portfolio of concurrent projects, ensuring all deadlines and program milestones are met.

  • Explore opportunities to advance sustainability goals and create applied learning experiences.
  • Offer presentations about programs, projects and initiatives.
  • Engage in clear and professional communication across all department levels to support the successful execution of work assignments and departmental instructions.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.


All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sustainability and related practices
  • Experience in program/project coordination
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting, frameworks and rating systems
  • Demonstrated ability to form collaborative partnerships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional experience in data analysis, organization and reporting
  • Familiarity or experience with emissions metrics or tracking
  • Experience mentoring, supervising or collaborating with students
  • Previous work in a university or similar setting
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
