DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Fitness and Wellness Program Director is an experienced leader for a non-credited recreational or sports program. Designs, creates, implements and instructs recreational programs for participants of all ages. Required to demonstrate considerable discretion, initiative, and independence to resolve issues and perform other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Fitness and Wellness Program Director manages and coordinates the Personal Training, Personal Training Certification, Exercise is Medicine, FitLife Mobile, and Strength Training class programs including developing the program objectives, strategizing program improvements, and developing policies and procedures with the Fitness & Wellness Program Director. The Assistant Fitness and Wellness Program Director will be responsible for designing and implementing the new Exercise is Medicine program with the Fitness and Wellness Program Director and in partnership with Student Health & Well-being. Strategizes with Marketing team on revenue generating programs and promotions. Reviews income and expense budgets and determines pricing. Conducts market research to ensure pricing and wages are in line with local region. Performs the recruitment, selection, and provides work direction and training to personal trainers. Ensures compliance with quality assurance and safety standards. Coordinates in-service training for all program staff. Establishes and maintains appropriate liaisons with other departments and outreach activities.

The Assistant Fitness and Wellness Program Director acts as a campus-wide wellness presenter and provides consultation. Manages inventory, including keeping database up to date and securing item identification to equipment, of Recreation Fitness Gyms and Housing, Dining, and Hospitality Residential Gyms, including items of significant value.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Client service focused, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills to resolve non-standard issues.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to appropriately exercise judgment, initiative, tact, diplomacy and patience, and to successfully interact with diverse student, staff, academic and public populations, in person, email or phone.

  • Strong proficiency in the use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs and technology.

  • Thorough knowledge of program activity and industry best practices. Broad and specific operational knowledge of personal training programs.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of strength and small group training programs.

  • Skills to develop original ideas, creative problem solving skills in a varied and challenging environment including service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization. Proven skill to interact effectively with students, staff, faculty, community members and the general public in a professional manner, exercising tact, diplomacy, cooperation, and behavior that maintains a climate of fairness and inclusivity. Ability to work with, supervise, motivate and develop student employees and non-career staff.

  • Ability to work in youth camps, fitness and outdoor programs.

  • Advanced skill to research, collect and analyze data. Analyze data and prepare long-range goals. Ability to oversee and execute a variety of long and short-term projects simultaneously, and to implement effectively any changes needed.

  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of financial principles to create and prepare budgets and manage a program funded by student fees.

  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadline and work on various projects and programs concurrently.

  • Experience in marketing, promotional, publicity, and public relations skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external campus personnel and partners.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Mandated Reporter: This position is considered a 'Mandated Reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in the University of California - Policy CANRA.

  • Must be willing and able to work a variable schedule to accommodate evening and weekend hours.

  • Must be able to perform other duties as assigned in support of the Fitness and Wellness unit and the over-arching goals of Recreation.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,400 - $93,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.53 - $44.92

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
