Sayres is seeking an experienced Part time Postproduction Test Engineer with a current SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Washington, DC.

Location: Washington, DC (travel required to San Diego in Late February)

Clearance: Ability to obtain/maintain secret clearance as required

Position Overview

The Postproduction Test Engineer provides subject matter expertise in damage control (DC), boat handling, and deck operations to support shipboard testing and certification events. This role supports Mock Walk Throughs, Mock INSURV, and Final Contract Trials (FCT) by performing ship checks, assisting with crew training, and serving as a technical expert on DC systems and related deck events.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide experienced coverage and technical expertise in damage control systems, boat handling, and deck operations.
  • Perform ship checks and system verifications prior to Mock Walk Throughs, Mock INSURV, and FCT events.
  • Serve as a Damage Control Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of certification and test events.
  • Assist in training ship's force on damage control systems and boat operations during Mock Walk Throughs, Mock events, and FCTs.
  • Evaluate ship readiness and identify gaps or deficiencies related to DC systems and deck operations.
  • Support test teams during inspections and trials, providing technical guidance and operational insight.
  • Participate in pre-event planning and coordination to ensure readiness for test and certification milestones.
  • Conduct a familiarization visit to the assigned ship prior to the 210 PDT&T request, planned for late February in San Diego, CA.


Required Qualifications



  • Prior experience in damage control systems, shipboard DC procedures, and deck operations.
  • Strong familiarity with shipboard DC systems, with working knowledge of other deck events.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting ship inspections, certifications, trials, or test events.
  • Ability to serve as a technical advisor and trainer for shipboard crews.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with ship's force and test teams.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Marine Transportation degree from an accredited maritime academy.
  • Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) or equivalent license (preferred).
  • Prior experience supporting INSURV, FCT, or similar Navy test and evaluation events.
  • Former Navy, Coast Guard, or maritime industry experience in ship operations or engineering roles.
