Department:Public Works Department Organizational Unit:Roadway and Bridge Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time Open Until Filled. $27.40 to $30.14 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Merritt Island. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs experienced professional work developing, coordinating, and conducting comprehensive automotive and heavy equipment training for the Public Works Department. Work includes providing both classroom and hands-on instruction, enhancing operational safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and strengthening employee skills in the operation of automotive and heavy equipment, and related safety practices. REQUIREMENTS: Two (2) years of college coursework in Safety Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a closely related field PLUS four (4) years of experience operating various type of heavy equipment -required vehicles; OR six (6) years of experience operating various types of heavy equipment - PLUS one (1) year of experience conducting heavy equipment and/or safety training. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience conducting heavy equipment and/or safety training, in a Public Works or similar environment, is preferred. Technical knowledge and experience working in a construction site environment are preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida drivers license, and maintain said license during the term of employment. All candidates selected for an interview must be able to successfully complete a practical skills test and effectively demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively operate multiple pieces of heavy equipment, including a Motor Grader, Track Hoe, Front-End Loader, and Rubber Tire Backhoe (or other similar excavator) in order to move to the next step of the selection process. Work is performed both indoors in an office environment and outdoors and may involve exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, noise, traffic, moving machinery, insects, and extreme weather conditions. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
