Overview

We are seeking a Harvester HCI Engineer to design, operate, and support a Kubernetes-native hyperconverged infrastructure platform that unifies virtual machines and containerized workloads. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, virtualization, and cloud-native platform engineering, leveraging Harvester, Kubernetes, and Rancher to deliver scalable, resilient environments.

This is a remote role open to engineers ranging from mid-level (4+ years) to senior-level (8+ years) experience, with responsibility and ownership aligned to experience level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy, operate, and maintain Harvester HCI clusters on bare-metal infrastructure
  • Manage both VM-based and containerized workloads using Harvester's Kubernetes-native architecture
  • Use Rancher for centralized cluster management, RBAC, lifecycle operations, and observability
  • Support Kubernetes cluster operations, including upgrades, scaling, networking, and storage
  • Work with KubeVirt to manage virtual machines running alongside container workloads
  • Operate and troubleshoot distributed storage using Longhorn
  • Partner with DevOps, Platform, and Application teams to support CI/CD pipelines and production workloads
  • Identify and resolve issues across compute, storage, networking, and Kubernetes control planes
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using IaC and scripting where appropriate
  • Create and maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and operational best practices
  • 4+ years (mid-level) to 8+ years (senior-level) experience in infrastructure, platform, or DevOps engineering
  • Hands-on experience with Harvester HCI in lab, staging, or production environments
  • Strong working knowledge of Kubernetes (cluster operations, workloads, networking, storage)
  • Experience using Rancher for Kubernetes and infrastructure management
  • Solid Linux systems administration experience
  • Understanding of virtualization concepts (VM lifecycle, storage, networking)
  • Experience supporting production workloads with high availability and reliability requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed systems
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • SUSE / Rancher / Harvester certifications
  • Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
