Our lab focuses on better understanding the molecular mechanisms of atrial fibrillation, the most common abnormal heart rhythm in humans. We have two main areas of interest: vascular inflammation (endothelial dysfunction) in atrial fibrillation, and the relation between sarcomeric proteins and arrhythmias. By using gene therapy as a tool to decipher which signaling pathways are involved in this disease, we hope to not only provide a better understanding in the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation, but also to allow the development of new therapeutic targets.
