Position Description:

The Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology at the University of Iowa invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, instructional track faculty appointment to begin in August 2026 renewable for a total of three years (2026-2029), and renewable in one-, two-, or three-year increments thereafter. Applicants will be considered at the levels of Assistant Professor of Instruction, Associate Professor of Instruction, or Professor of instruction; rank will be based on experience and record of achievement. Applications are sought from candidates with a demonstrated potential for excellent teaching in the areas of health coaching, health communication, community wellness, and lifestyle medicine. Duties of this position include in-person teaching (80%) and service (20%).

Education Requirement:


  • Master's degree (or higher) in health promotion, health education, health communication, public health, or related field conferred by the start date.


Required Qualifications:


  • Health coaching certification from the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching in hand by the start date.
  • Excellent communication skills, as demonstrated in the application materials
  • Evidence suggesting the ability to teach effectively at the university level.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • PhD in health promotion, health education, health communication, kinesiology, public health, or related field conferred by the start date.
  • Experience instructing within a health coaching training program.
