ERG is seeking an experienced Writer/Editor to provide communications, writing, and copyediting support. This is a one-year contract position with the potential for extension.
The selected candidate will work on-site at a federal agency's offices in downtown Washington, D.C., providing essential support for its programs and management initiatives.

Duties Will Include:
  • Identify gaps in current communication efforts and develop and execute comprehensive strategic plans to effectively convey agency messaging and priorities
  • Provide editorial and communications guidance to program offices
  • Write speeches, talking points, and briefings for agency leadership
  • Draft original content for webpages, fact sheets, and other communication products on a wide range of topics, tailored for diverse audiences
  • Conduct background research to ensure accuracy, completeness, and credibility of communication products
  • Copyedit and proofread documents for grammar, punctuation, clarity, tone, consistency, and adherence to agency style guides
  • Perform substantive editing, including reorganizing or rewriting content for coherence, flow, and readability
  • Ensure compliance with the Plain Language Act, Section 508 accessibility standards, and agency branding guidelines
  • Collaborate closely with government staff, subject matter experts, digital teams, and other contractors
  • Track and incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders into revised deliverables
Qualifications and Skills:
  • 8+ years of professional experience in communications, writing, and editing
  • Experience developing comprehensive communications plans and strategies
  • Proven experience writing speeches, talking points, and briefings for senior leadership
  • Experience producing content for websites, publications, and other communication platforms
  • Skilled in copyediting both technical and non-technical materials for clarity, tone, and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of The Associated Press (AP) Stylebook
The ideal candidate will also possess:
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while consistently delivering high-quality work
  • BA/BS in Journalism, English, Environmental or Occupational Health Science, or a related field
  • Experience writing about health and safety topics
  • Experience performing Section 508 reviews and ensuring documents meet accessibility standards
  • Familiarity with Plain Language Act requirements

The salary range for all positions depends on the years and type of experience.
