Engineering Designer

Position Summary:

As Engineering Designer, you will contribute to the technical expertise that LCE engineering/design provides to our clients. You will be responsible for working closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to develop 2D design packages shipboard habitability spaces. This work will be accomplished for various USN surface ship platforms at Fort Monroe.

Contract Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen with a DoD Secret security clearance



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Create Shipboard Installation Drawings from ship-check sketches and notes
  • Compare drawings to drafting standards and review for form, fit and function
  • Use 2D modeling software to develop design packages
  • Participate on field and ship check teams to perform site surveys (some travel required)
  • Create figures and illustrations for insertion into engineering presentations, proposals and reports
  • Collaborate with design team members.
  • Use Microsoft Office and Adobe software tools to support design tasking



Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum seven (7) years of relevant USN ship experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience developing drawings and 2D models related to the marine industry
  • Experience with AutoCAD required
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and present technical information using practical judgment
  • Capable of functioning effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of Naval, ABS and other marine standards associated with the design of shipboard systems
  • Being a self-starter capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment



Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience developing mechanical and/or electrical fabrication drawings
  • Knowledge of commercial/industrial standards associated with the design of industrial equipment and systems
  • Associates degree in Drafting or Engineering-related field preferred



Physical Demands and Expectations:

  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasionally prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
