Position Summary:
The STG laboratory studies neuronal excitability and network dynamics in a small central pattern generating circuit, the crustacean stomatogastric ganglion (STG). This position requires that the applicant, after a short training period, independently performs surgery on crustaceans to isolate the stomatogastric nervous system.

Essential Functions:
-Use
electrophysiological equipment for electrical nerve stimulations and
recordings.
-Perform
various pharmacological manipulations.
-Perform
quantitative analysis of the recording traces using software tools
established in the lab.
-Participate
in laboratory meetings presenting findings.
-Prepare
manuscripts.
-Adhere to
all established standards of experiment documentation.
-Must undergo lab safety training.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Prior experience in a neuroscience lab.
-Surgical
experience is strongly desired.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate for this position is $20.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
