2026 Summer Intern - Product Development Data Sciences, Digital Endpoints and Patient Centered Solutions

Department Summary

Product Development Data Sciences is a group of more than 1,000 data scientists across 5 global sites. We deliver data and insights about our medicine with excellence and passion. Our mission is to unlock the full potential of data, to accelerate innovative healthcare solutions for patients and society.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • High-impact project: You will work on a high-impact scientific project about vision foundation models using inhouse large dataset.

  • Driving the project end to end: You own the project. You design and execute the project from data engineering to deep learning algorithm development to analyze the outcomes in clinical context.

  • AI research: You apply cutting-edge technologies or explore novel methodologies in AI/ML to help clinical development at Genentech.

Program highlights:

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the pharmaceutical biotechnology industry.

  • Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, including networking opportunities, workshops, and panel discussions.

  • Final presentations of project work to senior leaders.

  • Participate in volunteer projects, social events, and team-building activities.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Master's degree (currently enrolled).

  • Must have attained a Master's degree no more than 2 years ago.

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (currently enrolled).

Required Majors: Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Biotechnology or related fields.

Required Skills:

  • Deep learning and/or foundation models applied to images / videos, software development.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills and team player; comfortable explaining complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Intermediate programming ability in Python and familiarity with deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.

  • Experience with software development workflow using git and GutHub/GitLab.

  • Experience with cloud/scientific computing environments (e.g. high-performance computing clusters).

  • Experience with self-supervised learning and foundation models is preferred.

  • Familiarity with clinical data and medical images is a plus, ophthalmology disease area is a further plus.

  • Experienced problem solver capable of seeking help when needed.

  • Passion for learning and curious about drug development in the pharmaceutical biotechnology industry.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
