SUNY Broome Community College is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Maintenance Worker to join our 1st Shift team. This position works Monday through Friday from 7: 00 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. Maintenance Workers perform a variety of semi-skilled mechanical, building maintenance, repair, and construction-related tasks. This position supports the upkeep of campus facilities and grounds to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform semi-skilled work in areas such as carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and painting.
- Assist with installation and repair of wiring systems, electrical fixtures, and related equipment.
- Repair windows, doors, floors, walls, and other building components.
- Assist in installing and repairing plumbing fixtures, including sinks, toilets, and baths.
- Assist with cleaning and repairing boilers, pumps, heaters, pipelines, valves, and traps.
- Mix plaster and concrete; assist with bricklaying, plastering, and finishing concrete work.
- Load and unload materials and supplies; assist with recording goods shipped and received.
- Participate in grounds maintenance activities, including snow and ice removal.
- Perform preventive maintenance on buildings and equipment.
- Operate trucks and other motorized equipment.
- Maintain simple records of maintenance performed and materials used.
- Perform occasional housekeeping and cleaning tasks as needed.
- Monitor and record energy conservation equipment readings and report irregularities.
Requirements:
- One (1) year of experience in general building construction, maintenance, or repair work in one or more standard trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, or a related field
- Working knowledge of modern building and grounds maintenance, repair procedures, and construction practices.
- Working knowledge of tools, terminology, and safety practices used in maintenance and construction.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- This is a physically demanding position that involves lifting heavy objects, bending, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motion.
- Possession of a valid appropriate level Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Additional Information:
The hourly rate for this position is $17.79.
Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
