Overview The Senior Analyst in Policy Integration Forecasting will conduct analytical and forecasting work related to DER load modifying technologies such as solar photovoltaics, battery energy storage systems, and combined heat & power. They will employ innovative analytical techniques to assess and forecast the impact of these load modifiers, evaluating historical data to model expected future behavior. The Senior Analyst will learn the DER forecasting process and become familiar with all upstream impacts to the forecast, such as interconnection processes, market drivers and customer behavior, as well as downstream impacts of the forecast on decisions affecting the Company's core business. This work will directly contribute to the development of delivery volume, system peak, and network peak forecasts. Additionally, they will provide detailed assessments of policy scenarios to support electric, gas, and steam volume and peak forecasts for CECONY and ORU to be used in budgets, rate cases and long-term plans. This role is crucial to the Company's success, as it monitors local, state, and national energy policies, regulatory changes and political developments, applying an analytical focus to ensure consistency among forecasts, strategies, and plans from Energy Management, Strategic Planning, Customer Energy Solutions, and Corporate Affairs. The Senior Analyst in this role will blend technical skills and attention to detail with a big-picture focus and constant awareness of the broader impacts of their work products being delivered.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct analytical and forecasting work related to Distributed Energy Resources such as battery energy storage systems, solar photovoltaics, and combined heat & power, employing innovative techniques to assess and model the impact of these load modifying technologies on our distribution systems.
- Develop short- and long-term load modifier peak and volume forecasts for Electric and Gas Forecasting for CECONY and ORU.
- Interface with Customer Energy Solutions, Energy Policy & Regulatory Affairs, Strategic Planning, Energy Efficiency, and other internal company departments to ensure consistent assumptions and inputs in load modifiers and emerging energy policy.
- Track developments of major local, state, and federal energy & environmental policy initiatives and translate their impact into short- and long-term forecasts using the best and latest available information.
- Develop spreadsheets, reports, regulatory filings, and testimony in support of the rate cases, budgets, capital projects, regulatory proceedings, and other forecasts.
- Perform ad-hoc studies, forecasts, assessments, and make recommendations in a timely manner as needed by internal and external customers.
- Attend NYISO, NYSERDA, PSC, AGA, EPRI, and FERC conferences and meetings to obtain first-hand information pertaining to energy policy, forecasting, and outlooks.
- Develop and deliver presentations to Company leadership on forecasts delivered and other work performed.
- Learn new systems and technological tools as required.
- Perform other related tasks as required.
- Perform system emergency assignments/storm duty as needed.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Engineering, Energy Management, Mathematics, or related fields and two (2) years of full-time energy/utility or related work experience. or
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Economics, Engineering or related fields and three (3) years of full-time energy/utility or related work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of full-time analytical or engineering or project management or related experience. Required
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Required
- Working knowledge of Python with a demonstrated interest in gaining programming skills. Required
- Working knowledge of utility or energy system/services. Preferred
- Knowledge of SQL, Excel VBA, or other relevant programming skills. Preferred
- Knowledge of statistics, econometrics and/or forecasting techniques. Preferred
- Knowledge of Distributed Energy Resources, namely solar photovoltaics, battery energy storage, and combined heat and power. Preferred

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
