Job Description

Responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in special education. Specific duties and responsibilities will include the following: Design and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in special education, with a strong focus on applied practice and instructional effectiveness. This may include courses such as Learners with Disabilities, Implementing Assessment Strategies, and Etiology and Theory of Mild to Moderate Disabilities, among others. Develop and update curriculum to align with state and national standards, ensuring teacher candidates are equipped to meet the needs of diverse learners. Integrate clinical experiences and performance-based assessments to enhance student readiness for licensure and classroom success. Advise and mentor pre-service teachers, supporting their academic progression and professional development. Supervise fieldwork and student teaching placements, with a focus on ensuring high-quality implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) and inclusive practices. Conduct applied research on special education methods, autism spectrum disorders, and teacher effectiveness. Perform grant writing to secure external funding to support innovative initiatives in special education and teacher training. Manage funded projects, including budgeting, reporting, evaluation, and dissemination of findings. Serve on departmental and university committees focused on special education program and curriculum development, accreditation, and educator effectiveness. Collaborate with school districts, state agencies, and professional organizations to align program outcomes with workforce needs. Lead efforts to design and improve teacher preparation pathways, particularly in high-need certification areas such as special education and autism support. Support recruitment, training, and retention efforts that strengthen the pipeline of effective special education teachers.

Compensation & Benefits:

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Special Education or a related field and 3 years of K-12 special education experience. Must also have experience with each of the following: 1) Conducting applied research on special education methods, autism spectrum disorders, and teacher effectiveness. 2) Teaching and designing courses in special education, including courses in online teaching modalities. 3) Assessing, planning, and delivering targeted interventions for special education students. Will accept experience gained before, during or after graduate studies. The employer will accept experience gained concurrently. Approximately 5% domestic and international travel annually is expected for faculty members to attend research conferences and convenings.
