Actuarial & Risk Intern

MEMIC
$22/hr
United States, Maine, Portland
261 Commercial Street (Show on map)
Jan 27, 2026

Do you love numbers, patterns, and figuring out how things really work behind the scenes? If so, you’re going to feel right at home with the Actuarial & Risk team. This internship puts you at the center of the models and analysis that help MEMIC understand risk, forecast the future, and make smart financial decisions. You’ll work with real data, real models, and real actuaries who are excited to help you grow.

What You’ll Do

You’ll jump into meaningful actuarial and risk management work from day one, including:

  • Supporting updates to the Actuarial Analysis System (AAS) by compiling expense provisions from current actuarial workbooks
  • Assisting with enhancements to MEMIC’s Own Risk Solvency Assessment (ORSA) model by integrating economic and market data into risk models, conducting ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) research and enhancing reporting capabilities and helping design new model functionality
  • Performing loss reserve analysis across assigned states
  • Selecting development factors for loss, ALAE, and ULAE
  • Making initial selections of ultimate loss and expense estimates to support financial projections

What You Bring

  • Pursuing an Associate’s degree or higher
  • Curiosity, analytical thinking, and a love for solving complex problems
  • Comfort working with data and learning new tools
  • Strong communication skills — because explaining numbers is just as important as crunching them

Why You’ll Love This Internship

  • You’ll work with real actuarial models that influence company decisions
  • You’ll build resume‑ready skills in risk modeling, data analysis, and financial forecasting
  • You’ll see how math becomes strategy — and how actuaries help shape the future
  • You’ll get exposure to ESG, market data, and risk frameworks that are shaping the industry
