Job Summary

The Intake, Support and Informal Resolution Specialist reports to the Director, Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance/Deputy Title VI Coordinator in the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance (OCR). This person works with the Associate Vice President for Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance, Senior Director of Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance,Civil Rights and Title IX Specialists, Director of ADA Compliance/ADA Coordinator, and campus and college officials handling materials of a confidential and/or sensitive nature. This position is a full-time, twelve-month staff position.

The Intake, Support and Informal Resolution Specialist's primary duty is providing day-to-day management of reports of sexual violence, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation that are submitted by students, faculty, and staff. The Intake, Support and Informal Resolution Specialist conducts intake meetings with parties; arranges for provision of supportive measures; provides ongoing support to parties involved in OCR processes; assists with providing timely response to incoming reports; and conducts educational and informal resolutions of reports. This position requires in-depth knowledge of Title VI, Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act ("VAWA''), and equal employment opportunity laws, including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"), the Rehabilitation Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act ("ADEA''), and other laws.

The Intake, Support and Informal Resolution Specialist will also collaborate with campus offices and partners, including Center for Student Advocacy and Wellness (CSAW); University Police; Human Resources; Office of the Provost; Office of Community Standards (OCS); and Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS).

Please note: Position may require travel between Evanston and Chicago campuses and off-campus and the ability to respond to urgent matters via phone/email on evenings and weekends.

Job DescriptionResponsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive, timely, trauma-informed response and support services to faculty, staff, and students reporting sexual misconduct, discrimination and harassment. Coordinate the provision of supportive measures for complainants and respondents.

  • Conduct intake meetings with faculty, staff, students, and unaffiliated complainants reporting violations of the University's Policy on Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct and Policy on Title IX Sexual Harassment; communicate information about reporting options and the University's investigation and resolution process.

  • Engage in regular communication with parties involved in OCR processes; meet with parites engaged in ongoing resolution processes, upon request or as needed; address/triage any needs articulated by the parties.

  • Gather additional information to evaluate reports of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct; review reports within OCR to determine jurisdiction and appropriate resolution, and assist the Director, and OCR leadership in evaluating whether reports indicate individuals may have been subjected to a hostile environment.

  • Facilitate alternative resolution processes and conduct educational conversations with parties in OCR processes.

  • Ensure a well-documented process. Maintain accurate and thorough records and notes of all interactions, including keeping updated case records in Maxient.

  • Manage the closure of individual case files, ensuring that all Maxient files are complete prior to closure.

  • Assist with fulfilling annual reporting requirements, including reporting for the Illinois Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act and assembly of OCR's annual report.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Successful completion of a four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree. Master's degree in higher education administration, student services, counseling, social work or a related field or law degree preferred.

  • Two of more years of full-time professional experience in increasingly responsible positions in student affairs, Title IX, Title VI, or Title VII enforcement or a related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and other applicable laws and regulations, and the ability to interpret complex legal guidance; knowledge of best practices as they relate to compliance with Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, and VAWA.

  • Ability to efficiently manage a caseload of multiple Title IX, Title VI, and Title VII related incidents and complaints.

  • Effective project management, organization, and analytical skills and ability to meet investigation timelines.

  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail.

  • Exceptional written communication skills.

  • Ability to act independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate confidential and difficult/sensitive information and to demonstrate compassion and sensitivity when interacting with parties and witnesses.

  • Ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the University.

  • Professional experience working in a higher education setting with college students.

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity, as well as the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, and administrators) with diplomacy and tact.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $78,000-$85,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
