Job Overview

The Lead Machine Learning & AI Engineer advances Macy's enterprise AI strategy by designing, deploying, and optimizing machine learning solutions that deliver measurable business impact. This role provides technical leadership, ensures production readiness, and partners with stakeholders to embed AI into critical workflows. By driving innovation and governance, the position enables Macy's to scale advanced analytics and accelerate data-driven decision-making across the organization.

What You Will Do



  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced Machine Learning and AI models for enterprise use cases using TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and related frameworks.




  • Drive AI enablement by integrating generative AI techniques and large language models (LLMs) into production workflows for personalization, automation, and operational efficiency.




  • Build and automate scalable ML pipelines for feature engineering, model training, and inference in cloud environments such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging BigQuery and SQL.




  • Implement strategies for real-time inference and optimize model performance for large-scale datasets.




  • Lead the integration of generative AI techniques and large language models (LLMs) into workflows, powering next-generation customer engagement and intelligent automation.




  • Apply CI/CD best practices, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code tools to streamline ML and AI operations.




  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and business stakeholders to validate production readiness and align solutions with strategic priorities.




  • Ensure compliance with Responsible and Explainable AI standards, including governance frameworks and risk management protocols.




  • Troubleshoot, debug, and validate ML and AI systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.




  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.




  • Perform data science duties when needed to support project continuity and team cross-training.


Skills You Would Need



  • Technical Acumen: Demonstrates deep expertise in machine learning frameworks, cloud-based ML infrastructure, and scalable data pipelines; proficient in Python, SQL, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and ML Ops practices including containerization, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.




  • Stakeholder Management: Builds strong partnerships with business leaders and technical teams to ensure AI solutions meet enterprise priorities and production standards.




  • Communication: Translates complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences and maintains timely updates on progress and challenges.


Who You Are



  • Brings 5+ years of experience applying machine learning and AI engineering in business environments, including experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring others; advanced degree preferred.




  • Experienced in developing and deploying ML solutions in public cloud environments.




  • Skilled in designing and scaling complex data pipelines and evaluating model performance.




  • Proficient in SQL, BigQuery, and GCP products; familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.




  • Comfortable influencing stakeholders and managing priorities in fast-paced environments.




  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
